Instructor: Dr. Yong Ju Jung
The primary objective of this course is to provide comprehension in investigating, assessing, and formulating research inquiries, literature analysis, and studies centered around Library and Information Science (LIS). Over the semester, we've been progressively constructing assignments that will ultimately combine into a research paper. The paper presented below represents the literature review segment of my upcoming research paper, focusing on the significance of incorporating technology at Linscheid Library, located on the East Central University campus. Within the literature review, I examine works by experts in the LIS field, addressing the impact of academic libraries on student achievement, the evolving landscape of digital learning in today's era, and the overarching significance of technology integration. These three themes converge to furnish a solid foundation for my anticipated research studies (OU SLO 5 - Methods and Analysis).
Analysis
While the assignment provided specifically focuses on the literature review within a larger research paper, it holds significant importance in my overall writing process. Crafting this literature review, grounded in the provided information, provided a clearer direction for my research objectives (ALA Competency 6 - Research). I aimed for a meticulously structured and organized review to provide a comprehensive background understanding as I delve into the research phase (OU SLO 5 - Methods and Analysis). Adapting to the task of composing a literature review as part of a broader research paper presented a slight learning curve, as it was a new endeavor for me. Throughout the process, I constantly evaluated whether the reviewed information aligned with my ultimate research goals (Personal Goal 2.1). This exercise enhanced my comprehension of how the chosen information resources should directly serve their intended purpose (ALA Competency 2 - Information Resources).
Reflection
The skills acquired through this course and particularly this assignment will most definitely prove invaluable in my future role as an academic librarian. Not only will I apply these research skills to fulfill my own informational and research needs and/or requirements, but I will also have the opportunity to share this knowledge with students seeking assistance who will be on their own research journeys. I hope to be able to share the theories and methodologies that have broadened my understanding of research, potentially instilling a desire for lifelong learning in these students (ALA Competency 7 - Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning).
