Philosophy of Education

I BELIEVE...

I believe it is an administrator's duty to uphold the highest expectations for students, staff, and school families. To be successful, students need an environment that is safe, creative, engaging, differentiated, and tailored to fit their individual needs. In order to create this for students, teachers need guidance from the administration, time to develop professionally with colleagues, and the support from school families. In order to provide support and backing of their school and teachers, school families need fluent communication, a voice in decision making, and to be an integral part of the learning process. It is my responsibility to uphold the following responsibilities to reach the highest educational potential for all parties.

STUDENTS NEED

  • An environment that is safe and welcoming. The classroom should act as a second home for students where they feel comfortable expressing ideas and answering questions. The teacher should serve as the anchor and make it her priority to make every child feel noticed and important.
  • Project-based learning that initiates creative thinking. Students should be immersed in lessons that challenge their thinking and learning. They should know that there is more than one way to solve a problem and feel comfortable exploring their own ideas.
  • Engaging lessons that create learning experiences for better comprehension. Lessons should be designed around student interests in order to motivate learning experiences that are meaningful for the student.
  • Differentiated instruction to serve all learning levels. Because every students learns at different paces and in different ways, each student should be taught using methods that are tailored to their individual needs.

TEACHERS NEED

  • Clear expectations of school and student goals. Teacher values should align with school goals through clear communication from administration. This consistency will better serve students from year to year.
  • Guidance and support from administration to complete student goals. Teachers need the guidance of leadership to maintain processes that help them achieve student goals.
  • Time to participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for curriculum and lesson development. This should happen during school hours to give teachers the time to differentiate lessons and goal set for individual students.
  • Support and backing from school families. In order for teachers to feel supported by school families, they need support and help through volunteered time and clear communication with families.
  • Materials, technology, and education to make teaching efficient and innovative. Teachers can be more efficient and successful when they, not only have the right tools, but the knowledge and education to use those tools properly.

SCHOOL FAMILIES NEED

  • Clear and fluent communication from school administration and teachers. Families feel more invested and cared about when communication from the school occurs often.
  • A voice in the school decision-making process. Families need to be included in big decision making when it directly affects their student.
  • To be integrated into the learning process through experiences outside of school, but also activities within school throughout the year. Both students and families benefit when there is an inclusion and the gap between school and family is bridged through activities that bring all entities together.
