Mandated Reporter
Artifact Description: This mandated reporter training was completed before starting my student teaching at Aqsa School. As a teacher, I am my students' voice and it is required that if I suspect any of my students are being abused or neglected to report the facts and circumstances. The goal is to protect our students.
IPTS Connection: This training shows I "know laws and rules (e.g., mandatory reporting, sexual misconduct, corporal punishment ) as a foundation for the fair and just treatment of all students and their families in the classroom and school" (9B). This is shown through the evidence of being knowledgeable of the laws and rules to protect the student, and whenever possible to stabilize and preserve the family so that it may remain intact.
What I learned: This training has helped me to better promote and create a safe and healthy educational space for my students regardless of their identity and background. In addition, I learned as a teacher I have responsibilities not only tied to content knowledge but my students' safety and stability.
Artifact Description: These reflections were written for EDUC 454: Student Teaching Seminar: Contemporary. I had to record myself and reflect on my performance and teaching. Most importantly how I grew from when I first started student teaching back in September.
IPTS Connection: These reflections show I can "reflect on professional practice and resulting outcomes; engage in self-assessment; and adjust practices to improve student performance, school goals, and professional growth" (9K). This is shown by this assignment which allows me to observe and identify my performance while being in a classroom setting and teaching content. It helped me identify my areas of strengths and improvements. It helped to think about ways to modify my teaching to fit some of my students' needs in future purposes.
What I learned: This assignment taught me the necessity of reflecting on my teaching. Reflecting allows us to observe different aspects of teaching. It develops our abilities as teachers to understand how our students in the classroom learn are the best ways to teach them, or not. By reflecting on our teaching, it helps us identify any barriers that might disrupt our students' learning.
