I joined NJROTC because I would see students with the Navy Service Uniform at school and I would think “It must be nice to wear a uniform”. Now I enjoy being in the program because of all of the people I meet, the events, and all of the after-school practice. What I hope to achieve from this program by the end of my senior year is to have earned most of the NJROTC ribbons. It's a good feeling working on something and being recognized for it which is why I'm working hard to earn ribbons.

One of the classes I really enjoy is NJROTC. In this class, I have the opportunity to learn about combat strategies, military tactics, and the history of the armed forces. What I like most about this class is that I can acquire practical and theoretical knowledge about how military operations work. Furthermore, in this class, I also have the opportunity to develop physical and mental skills. We learn combat techniques hand-to-hand combat, to handle weapons safely and effectively, and maintain physical conditions optimum. They also teach us values such as discipline, loyalty, and respect, which are fundamental in the military field. Another aspect I enjoy about this class is that I get to learn about the history and achievements of different armed forces around the world. Learning how they have evolved strategies and weapons over time is fascinating and helps me understand better the current defense and security context. In general, I really like this class because it allows me to acquire knowledge and valuable skills in the military field. I am inspired by the courage and sacrifice of those who serve in the armed forces, and this class gives me the opportunity to better understand their work. Every time I walk into this class, I feel deep respect and admiration for those who dedicate their lives to protecting their country.

In the military class, various skills are developed that are fundamental for the field military. Below I will mention some of the skills that I learned in class:

1. Discipline

2. Teamwork

3. Physical abilities

5. Leadership

When NJROTC first came into our gym speaking about their morals and how the structure of the program works. I was hesitant but immediately intrigued when I heard the word discipline. Now, at these ages, I wish to be ready for more responsibilities as I grow older, so I joined JROTC. Rotc has given me an outlet to learn naval knowledge and become a well-rounded educated citizen in politics, social issues, values, and etiquette.

I joined NJROTC in September of my 9th grade year. I was only in it then because it was added to my schedule. This was during the era of online learning. I thought I would stay in the program for this school year. The following year I thought I would join Gym. But during my 10th grade year, I ended up staying. This was because we were finally able to be in class. Finally, I saw what the program was about. The main reason I stayed was because of Commander Payne. He changed the program completely. It made it feel like there was a reason to be in it. Beforehand it just felt like a loop of coming to class just to come to class. But then we started to learn more about the Navy’s core values. He would tell us stories about his time in the Navy. His southern accent also made him pretty funny. He’s also someone you can talk to whenever needed and check up on you.  Commander Payne is one of the many reasons I have decided to stay in the program.
