For Fall 2017, the Girls Who Code Club at Lakewood Public Library (OH267) had 10 coders, 3 facilitators, 1 sponsor and an additional librarian assistant/facilitator. The club met on Monday evenings for 12 weeks beginning September 11, 2017. Our 12th and final session included a celebration where family and friends were invited.
Girls Who Code launched a new platform that fall, HQ, where the club members would find activity sets and other materials. Each week, they learned about a Woman in Tech, further explored the Core4 Computer Science Concepts through unplugged activities, practiced coding in Scratch, Codesters, Glitch (HTML/CSS), or Khan Academy, and worked together on an Impact project of their choosing.
The theme of the club's project was Pets. A website was created aimed at Animal Lovers. The site contained pages with information about both Cat and Dog breeds (HTML/CSS), several Scratch games including one where you get to play as if you were the cat, a quiz in Codesters (Python) to help you determine the best type of pet for you, and club member biographies with fun animal morph images. The website is no longer available.
