FAQ- Incoming FHS 7th Graders
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions from incoming 7th graders:
1. How many different classes are there?
a) 7th graders have a mostly set schedule and only choose between being in a music or non-music class. Students will have more class options starting in 9th grade.
2. What extra classes can you take?
a) 7th graders may choose between Choir/Band/Music Technology or a non-music class such as Intro to Ag or Family Consumer Science.
3. What time is lunch and how long is it?
a) Lunch is scheduled at 11:12am and it is 30 minutes long.
4. How many students are at FHS?
a) For the 2018-2019 school year there were about 120 high school students.
5. Do we have recess?
a) No recess in the High School
6. What do we wear for Phy. Ed and do we have to shower?
a) You will go over dressing attire in the first class of PE. Students do need to change into appropriate gym clothes such as shorts, t-shirt and/or sweatpants and they need to have non-street shoes.
Showering is not required, however, it is recommended to have deodorant to apply after class as needed.
7. How many teachers will I have?
a) 7th graders have between 7-9 different teachers.
8. What activities can I be in in 7th grade?
a) 7th graders have access to all the sports offered at FHS. Football, Volleyball, wrestling, basketball, track, Cross-country, baseball, softball, trap-shooting etc. There are also clubs that 7th grade can sign up for such as Robotics, CHAMPS, Pep Band, and student council.
9. Where do I wait before school?
a) When you arrive at school you can be in the cafeteria and eat breakfast, in the library, or in the hallway.
10. Where do I go if I am picked up after school?
a) After school pick up is in the front of the school.
11. How much homework will I have each day?
a) Students typically do not get too much homework and are provided class time to do their work. If you choose not to use your class time, you will need to complete your work at home.
12. How will I know where to go for my classes?
a) Students will receive their schedule at 7th grade Orientation prior to the school year starting. Your schedule has your classes and the teacher listed, as well as the classroom. 7th graders also receive a guided tour on Orientation night.
13. How much time do we have between classes?
a) Students have 3 minutes between each class.
14. What do you do if your class is on one side of the building and the next is on the opposite end?
a) Students can bring their books for both classes to the first class so they do not have to go to their locker in between. You do have enough time to stop at your locker.
15. Can we have electronics in class?
a) Cell phones are not permitted in class unless specified and approved by the teacher. Cell phones are only permitted before school, during lunch, and after school. Any teacher or school staff member may confiscate your cell phone if necessary.
16. Can we have locks on our lockers?
a) FHS does not provide locks for your locker, however, you may bring one from home. If you choose to have a lock on your locker you are required to provide the combination, or extra key, to the main office.
17. Do we go on any trips?
a) Usually there is at least one educational class trip during 7th grade.
18. How many clubs, or activities can I be in?
a) Students can participate in as many activities as they want, as long as they are able to manage their time and academics. Academics are ALWAYS first.
You must maintain passing grades in order to participate in activities and/or sports. Progress reports are provided weekly to coaches and you will not participate if you do not have a passing grade.
19. How many days a week do we have gym class?
a) 7th graders have Phy. Ed and Health every day for the entire school year. Typically the class is scheduled alternating 2 weeks of Phy. Ed and then 2 weeks of Health and so on.
20. How long is each class?
a) First period is the same each day and is approx. 50 minutes. We then run and Even/ Odd day schedule in which your classes will alternate. On even days you will have 4 classes and on odd days you will have 4 or 5 classes based on your elective choice.
21. Do we have to take all the classes?
a) Yes.
22. Is there a place to go to do unfinished homework?
a) Teachers are typically available after school for a short time. There is also after school homework help on Wednesdays, but if you need help on other days you may communicate with your teacher and arrange an appointment.
23. Where do I change my schedule? Who do I go to if I have troubles?
a) The School Counselor, Mrs. Lundstrom, or the Principal Mrs. Steinmetz, may help with academic advising, college and career readiness, and personal/social issues.
24. Is HS like the movies?
a) No. HS is not like the movies.
