Guernsey women claim Six Nations bronze

YOUNG Chloe Le Tissier’s step up into ‘big time’ senior table tennis could hardly have gone much better.

The 15-year-old made her full Guernsey debut as the Sarnian women claimed a brilliant bronze medal at the Six Nations Championships in Cardiff.

Although largely restricted to the doubles, the youngster impressed, according to team manager Maurice James.

‘She was playing mainly with Dawn [Morgan] and played really well. She certainly settled in well and looked the part.’

James said that the new format had restricted Le Tissier’s involvement as it was important to maximise the capabilities of Guernsey and CI champion Alice Loveridge (pictured).

The Sarnians beat both Ireland and Scotland 3-1 in the women’s competition in which Jersey did not compete.

But they were to go down 3-0 against both Wales and England, the latter clash seeing Loveridge take Hannah Hicks, the eventual singles winner, all the way before losing 14-12 in the deciding fifth.
