If you’re inexperienced:
We built this trip for geology students of all levels! With that being said, since it's pre-made, there may be some parts of this that seem really confusing. Please do not get discouraged!
Because this is a single website, we have to target everyone from freshman to seniors, and can’t pull just you aside (on here). With that being said- please contact me (LMulrooney@ufl.edu)! If you have specific questions, I am happy to answer them. Or even if you can just point to a page and say I don’t get any of this, I am more than happy to work with you so you can understand the things that are most important for you based on where you are.
Do not be embarrassed because you don’t know or understand something. I was once a student who went on a trip without knowing the difference between plagioclase, quartz, and feldspar. It's okay: we’re here to learn and there is no judgement in that.
At the end of this, you might walk away and think ‘well I didn’t get any of that’. But if you ask questions, interact with new words, and see pictures of these things, something is going to stick with you- and hopefully make you excited to learn more.
On my first field trip I walked away knowing what scale was, that plagioclase was different from quartz, and that garnet was a pretty mineral - and that I wanted to go on another field trip. The point being, you have to start somewhere, so let us help you!
Let's get started!
