Alas, the field trip that covers the four basic topics of geology, and takes you all over the southeastern US, comes to an end. This trip would almost be impossible to do in-person, especially in the time that we just did it in. So, that is one good thing about virtual field trips!
We hope you had fun, we hope you learned something, and we hope that maybe you have ideas for a field trip of your own! Virtual field trips are not only handy when the country is in a pandemic, but also helps include others who might not have the ability to make it into the field, pandemic or not. The field of geology is working to be a more inclusive science, and virtual field trips are a great way to do that with our ever-evolving technology. What may be un-exciting to you, could be an absolute blessing to someone else. Just something to keep in mind!
Thank you for coming along with us. We hope you learned a thing or two (hopefully more than two!) and we look forward to seeing you live, April 3rd at 10:00 cdt!
We're really looking forward to meeting y'all at our live portion (Saturday April 3rd at 10:00 am cdt)! We encourage you to bring questions (if you have them) but if not, don't worry! We have several activities planned. To make sure you're as prepared as possible, we have a "pack list" (see? just like a real trip!).
Required:
A computer with internet connection
A working webcam
Something for notes (this could be paper or a notebook, pencil or a pen, or a tablet. Whatever works for you- but we will ask you to do some writing and drawing (and encourage color!)
Recommended:
When working in the field you should always make sure to dress for the activity! We encourage you to wear your favorite field gear (We all will!), but most importantly, make sure you’re comfortable!
Make sure to stay well hydrated! And have plenty of snacks on hand!
Also, to give you an idea of what to expect, we’ll start out with some introductions, and icebreakers for you to get comfortable with your peers (field work is a group activity after all). We’ll then transition to a few of the stops that have already been shared with you, and we’ll do some more guided exercises (encouraging y’all to work together!). And we’ll finish up by answering some of your questions.
We can’t wait to see y’all!
