Finally! the mystery you've all been waiting for. You probably looked at that very first map I gave you and though "Huh, I wonder what that yellow area is?". I didn't want to confuse you by making it too prominent, but for the sake of accuracy (and coolness) couldn't leave it out. Anyhow, this is the Grandfather Mountain Fenster, and we're going to learn all about it in a later stop! But for the moment, I just want you to look at this and know that this is not a gneiss, a schist, a migmatite, or a metagraywacke: and is none of the units were mapping.
I'm sorry for the photo of the gross water, but if you look in the water, you can see a bunch of light circles in the rock. This is a metaconglomerate (a metamorphosed (squished) conglomerate (a sedimentary rock with larger than sand sized grains)).
