In 1871, a post office was established in Moffat Station, TN, named after its founder John Moffat. The name changed several times over the years to Moffat, Mont Eagle, Mounteagle and finally in 1925 to Monteagle. The May Justus Library began as the Monteagle Public Library in the early 1960’s. In 1988 is was renamed in memory of May Justus, a noted author and teacher who had encouraged people in the community, especially children, to read. A complete collection of Miss Justus’ books are maintained in the Library. The Library has 12 public access computers, WiFi, a large collection of books on CD, a good selection of DVDs, a growing collection of bestsellers and a wonderful children’s collection. There is a storytime offered every Wednesday at 10:00 and a fun Summer Reading Program every Thursday in June and July.
