Why do you recommend reduced digging of the soil?
Digging damages important soil structure that is created by soil life and previous plant roots living there before. Soil structure is very important for healthy plant growth and in reducing most growing issues. Digging also harms important soil life that contributes to healthy plant growth and reduced growing issues.
How can I prepare my land without digging?
Reduced digging is highly recommended however, it does not mean to avoid digging when necessary. The thing to know is that whenever you dig you damage soil and so its best to reduce it as much as possible. Often, the soil is dug to loosen it. GROWERS GOLD naturally softens the soil and improves soil structure. As such, digging to soften the soil really is not necessary anymore.
How can I plant with out digging?
Ideally plant seeds with direct drilling into your soil, just enough for the seed to be placed. Seedlings will need a hole but not much bigger than the root area to avoid soil damage. Some people use no-till methods of growing where they plant onto the original soil surface, (or sometimes on a raised bed), and then surround the roots with a thick covering of mulch/organic matter. How can I maintain weeds without digging?
Weeds reduce naturally as soil health improves. Weeds actually indicate soil health as they grow in their own certain conditions. GROWERS GOLD will help to improve soil health and it also works to soften soils making weeds easier to remove by hand or with hand tools. You may slash some areas of weeds and leave the weeds to lie as organic mulch/matter. Another approach is to control weeds from occurring by 1) improving soil health, 2) keeping your soil covered with organic mulch/matter so weeds do not grow or 3) growing manageable cover crops between row crops or between planting of normal crops and then slashing or rolling the cover crops when it comes time to replant your main crops. This also benefits in increasing available soil organic matter which then also contributes to improved soil health.
What about digging in organic matter or mixing nutrients into my soil?
We recommend not digging in organic matter or other minerals into your existing soil. Let soil life, introduced with GROWERS GOLD or that was already present, work this matter into your soil naturally. However, if you are making a soil mix for planting, then mixing a good mix of organic matter and minerals through your soil is fine, as the soil structure is not yet already created. Examples of this would be for potting plants/seedlings or for a new raised soil bed for vegetables in home gardens.
