Tinutuan
Tinutuan is a Manadonese traditional food. It is some type of porridge. This Manadonese porridge may not seem all that appetizing at first, but despite its somewhat disorganized appearance, this traditional food is delicious and should not be missed while visiting the city of Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi. Every Manadonese traditional dish including Tinutuan has a distinctive and mouthwateringly rich flavor. Bubur Manado, a common name for this vegetarian cuisine, is a special fusion of savory and spicy ingredients with a dash of freshness. Tinutuan Porridge, which is usually found on the breakfast menu, has become something of an icon for Manado, to the extent where the name Manado City has also been used for it. Unlike the usual chicken porridge, which is somewhat yellowish in color, the appearance of Tinutuan is very much like a big jumble of vegetables atop a bowl of rice. The vegetables included in the mix are pumpkin, sweet potato, cassava, water spinach, corn, spinach, and a few others. These vegetables are spiced with garlic, lemongrass, bay leaves, ginger, and salt. As a result of the large range of vegetables included in the mixture, which are high in vitamins and rich in nutritional value, one serving of Tinutuan porridge is said to meet all your nutritional needs for the day (Indonesia Travel, 2022).
Another unique fact about Tinutuan is that it is considered a women's dish. Some Manado and Minahasa people believe/ think that this vegetable porridge is indeed made by and for women. In Tondano, people often refer this dish as Pekanan ne wewene, which means women's food. Not only that, Manadonese women also must be able to make Tinutuan. No wonder when visiting Manado, there are so many teenagers and women who are good at making this dish. Most native Manadonese women are good at cooking Tinutuan. (Affrilia, 2021). Manado, which is nicknamed the City of Tinutuan, continues to process becoming the favorite tourist destinations in the country. One of the events that presents Tinutuan is Manado Fiesta back in 2018. This event was held on August 31 to September 9, 2018 (Kumparan, 2018).
The best way to preserve your cultural heritage, whatever it may be, is to share it with others and younger generations. Childrens should be introduced to traditional foods from an early age. One way is to serve a minimum of home cooking so that children get used to it. Cultural heritage and natural history of a nation have a very high value and is unique. It is an identity that can be introduced to the world (Baskoro, 2015).
