MIE CAKALANG

Mie Cakalang

Mie Cakalang is one of the most popular foods in Manado. It is a noodle with a strong aroma of Cakalang fish that is usually served with spices and slices of Cakalang over the noodles. Mie Cakalang is served in a clear broth with a bit of pepper which gives a slightly spicy taste to the tongue. It is usually served with two kinds of chili sauce, that is green chili sauce and red chili sauce (Indonesia Kaya, 2020). You can feel how delicious it is when your tongue tastes it!  

In every corner of this city, you can find sellers who serve Mie Cakalang (Irham, 2020).  Manadonese people usually enjoy Mie Cakalang with Manado porridge for breakfast.  So, we can conclude that Mie Cakalang is a typical Manado food that is liked by many people and is known by many people. 

Although Mie Cakalang is popular, there has not been a special festival for cakalang noodles in Manado. However, Mie Cakalang sometimes is presented at other festivals such as culinary festivals.  

The best way to preserve Mie Cakalang is to share it with others and younger generations. Children should be introduced to traditional foods from an early age. One way is to serve a minimum of home cooking so that children get used to it. The cultural heritage and natural history of a nation have a very high value and is unique. It is an identity that can be introduced to the world​ (Baskoro, 2015)​.
