Cap Tikus
Cap Tikus
Cap Tikus is a traditional Minahasa alcoholic drink made from the fermentation of nira water from aren trees. This traditional Minahasa liquor was originally named sopi, but the name sopi changed to Cap Tikus when Minahasa people in military training found sopi in blue bottles with of a picture of a rat’s tail then decided to change its name. Denny Pinontoan, Minahasa historian, said that Cap Tikus has existed since the Dutch colonial era. According to the old spelling it is called Tjap Tikoes, it is estimated that it has existed since the 1920-1930s (Anastasia, 2019).
This drink has been known by the Minahasa people for a long time and has been generally consumed since. Cap tikus is arguably one of the drinks that is almost always present at events in the city of Manado. So, it can be concluded that this traditional alcoholic drink is still known by the public and is still in great demand by many people (SAINS, 2022). As a popular traditional drink, Cap Tikus has already been at some festivals such as being one of the small business products exhibited at the UMKM festival and being the best-selling product there (Kadir, 2014).
Cap tikus was originally an illegal drink so it is difficult to preserve, but now cap tikus is preserved by legalizing it so that this cultural heritage from generation to generation does not just disappear. All of this is being fought for so that Cap Tikus farmers in Minsel in particular, and in North Sulawesi in general can be more prosperous (“Berjuang Agar Petani Jadi Sejahtera, Paruntu Launching Cap Tikus Legal,” 2020).
