CASA is an organization that advocates for children that have suffered the affects of child abuse. Volunteers advocate for them by taking a few months to investigate the child's living conditions and representing them in court by presenting information about how the child is affected physically and emotionally in the home. Thus, deciding whether the child needs to be transported to another home or is safe to stay there.Â
During an interview with a child advocate from CASA, the following information was gathered.
Therese Miller started CASA in Indiana in 1989 (34 years ago).
750 kids in total from the 3 counties and 380 for Bartholmew County.
Many CASA patients have a therapist that the child meets weekly to talk about their problems and feelings.
There are three choices on where to place a child. For example: a family, close friends, or foster care.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that partners adults with children five and up to create bonds and positive influence in the children's lives.
Beloved Bags is another organization that provides children with duffel bags filled with hygene essentials, activities, and other items to make their day of traveling to a foster home better.
Physical symptoms- marking, bruising, etc.
Mental symptoms- fear, hunger, sadness, etc.
