You can identify children who are being abused by these signs:
Child’s behavior and and grades change
Child acts paranoid, as if something might strike them
Child has learning impairment not related to any medical issues
Child lacks supervision
Child is extremely passive, withdrawn, or obeying
Child is early to arrive at places and late to leave
Child is reluctant to specific people
Child describes being abused
Child has unexplainable injuries (Broken Bones, bruises, or burns) many of which going untreated
Has fading bruises or other marks following a prolonged absence from school
Child is anxious, depressed, or aggressive.
Child is frightened of their parents or breaks down when they must return to them
Shows changes in sleep and eating
Child reports an injury by an adult
Child abuses animals or pets
Child appears frightened by adults
Child is frequently absent from school
Child steals or begs
Lacks medical care
Lacks sufficient clothing for weather
Child abuses substances
States that no one at home provides care
Has difficulty walking or sitting
Child reports nightmares or bed wetting
Child's appetite changes
Child Runs away
Child Contracts an STD or becomes pregnant
Child gets attached to strangers or new adults easily
Reports sexual abuse
Child shows extreme behavior
Child is adulting or being infantile
Has Delayed development
Child has depression or suicidal thoughts
Child has inability to develop bonds with peers
By Indiana Law, everyone is a mandatory reporter. If you see any signs of abuse that have been listed, YOU are REQUIRED to tell an official.
