Blog Entry 11: December 1

• Throughout the semester I have learned about fairy tales, how to analyze and interpret a tale, what's the difference between a fairy tale, a myth, legend, and a saint's legend. I also discovered movies that I didn't have anything to do with fairy tale and learned how to compare and contrast the themes with the fairy tales. For example, I didn't know there was a movie adaption of Hansel and Gretel. The movie did try to stay as similar as possible to the tale, because they did take direct quotes from the original Brothers Grimm tale. Before I took this class I didn't compare and contrast literature to movies so, I really need to know how to cite the movie or the book, what parts are the most important in comparing the two or finally how to analyze both to figure out which themes are the most important in the message you conveyed. Finally, the last thing I learned was that there are a lot of scholars that have studied fairy tales in different ways like psychoanalytic, and structuralism.
