Daniel ("Danny") LaBoccetta was in grade school when he learned that his artwork would become the 1984 Christmas Stamp. I was able to interview Daniel 40 years after the release of the stamp. Follow the link to view the article: 1984 Christmas Stamp Article

I am a member of the Art Cover Exchange, better known as ACE. ACE is a group of stamp collectors that mail each other decorated envelopes known as covers. Here is an excerpt from the ACE web-site:
"Today, in addition to hand-drawn or painted art, members use a variety of artistic methods for decorating their covers, including computer art, stickers, rubber stamps, collage and just about anything else that will adhere to a cover and go through the mails. "

Sterling Nature Center’s Pictorial Postmark
By: Gregory Scolieri (ACE 579)
The Sterling Nature Center located in Cayuga County, New York celebrated the April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse with a Pictorial Postmark. I asked Christine Engel of the Sterling Nature Center about the postmark and she was kind enough to provide me with some insight about the special postmark. Christine Engel, the Volunteer Coordinator of the Sterling Nature Center, had this to say:
“We had a contest for the Logo Design for the Total Eclipse event we held at the center. The winner's name was Cindy O'Dell, and this is her design. We were contacted by a wonderful lady named Holly Sharpe. She worked for USPS and told us it would make a tremendous pictorial postmark. My boss, the center's director, Jim D’Angelo, and a gentleman named Jeff Wallace worked with her to make it happen. Holly came on the day of the Eclipse and hand-stamped 350 postmarks that day. It was an excellent way to celebrate a unique event like the eclipse.”
I am the proud winner of the AFDCS Rookie of the Year Award. Winning that honor was a highlight of 2024 for me. You can view the contest winners by following the link:
DANISH DAYS POSTMARK
"Extreme Philately" is a new trend in stamp collecting. "Extreme Philately" is when a stamp collecter takes pictures of a stamp at the place the stamp depicts. Here is a picture of my daughter at the Montauk lighthouse with a First Day Cover featuring the Montauk Point Lighthouse. The first day cover is a favorite of mine. It was produced by Collins First Day Covers. To see their web-site visit the following link: Collins First Day Covers. To see more extreme philately visit my Extreme Philately Page.
