Wireless phone charging has been available for a while now. However I don't think it has proven as popular as what is could be. I use my wireless charger at night. I place my phone on the wireless charging mat and it charges. No cables no mess. Too easy.
Samsung introduced wireless charging for its Galaxy S series phones on the Galaxy S6. All Galaxy S phones and devices (including the Galaxy Note variants) will charge wirelessly.
Apple introduced wireless charging with iPhone 8. All iPhone models including the iPhone 8 and later have wireless charging capability (and also fast charging capability) as Apple integrated wireless charging that allows for that wire and cable free charging experience. iPhone wireless charging works with Qi-certified chargers. Currently iPhones with the latest version of iOS can be wirelessly charged at rates up to 7.5 watts.
Qi (pronounced as Chi or Chee) is an open, universal charging standard created by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). There are many Qi-certified chargers available in the market. Wireless chargers can be pads or mats that the phone is placed upon, or a stand that the phone sits in. There are also wireless car charging cradles, with these you sit you phone in the cradle and the phone begins charging wirelessly automatically.
