While the iPhone 11 Pro has a few advantages over the Apple's standard iPhone 11 such as having a superior display, a telephoto lens, slightly better water resistance, and slightly faster mobile data connectivity. I believe that these slight differences don't justify a $550 odd price difference. The 11 Pro is priced at $1,749.00 while the iPhone 11 is currently priced at $1199.00.

The 15 Top Features of The iPhone 11

Durability

The iPhone 11 is packed full of new features and here is a list of the top 15 new features.

Starting at number one on the list is stronger reinforced glass. Apple tells us that this year's iPhone 11 line is the most iPhone durable so far. That is thanks, in part, to the new double ion exchange glass that graces the front and the back on the new iPhones. We will not be throwing our iPhone 11 around, so we will take Apple's word for it. And a stronger iPhone is a better iPhone.

Ultra Wide Angle Lens

The next one is fairly obvious and that is the new ultra wide-angle camera lens. It joins the wide-angle lens already on the back of the iPhone 11 and adds a load of new functionality aside from just adding a wider point of view. When shooting with the camera, you simply tap on that 0.5 or that 1X to zoom in and out of photos. This is the equivalent of a zoom out, 2X, so you can get twice as much in your photos.

Improved Battery Life

Coming in at number three and next on the list is improved battery life. Apple states that the iPhone 11 will receive one additional hour worth of battery life over the iPhone XR. The iPhone XR was Apple's longest lasting iPhone ever, so tacking an hour onto that is pretty amazing. The new iPhone 11 Pro Max seemed to get a little bit more, but either way, the iPhone 11 lasts a long time.

Available In A Wide Range Of Colours

The iPhone 11, like the iPhone XR comes in several bright, beautiful colours. This year, they have a little bit of a pastel look to them. We picked up the new purple colour, but yellow, green, black, white, and red are all also available.

Night Mode

Not only did we get a new ultra wide angle lens, but the wide-angle lens has been improved. It now has 100% covered with focus pixels. What that means is you're going to get faster auto-focus in low light situations. Speaking of low light, Apple has introduced Night Mode on the new iPhone 11. Night Mode is activated automatically. If we cover up the lens to make it appear dark, you'll see this new icon appear in that top left hand corner. You can then just leave it at auto. It'll set the exposure for you automatically or you can adjust the exposure yourself, make it longer or shorter. In our abbreviated testing, we were really impressed with Night Mode. When I managed to my friend's kids to stand still for three seconds at a time and take some photos I got pretty clear photos in almost pitch black dark. The river near them also looks really nice and at night we couldn't even see the colours, it was so dark out, and yet the iPhone captured them really well. These were all handheld images but it works even better with a tripod.

Stereoscopic Portrait Mode

Next up is Portrait Mode, yes the iPhone XR also has Portrait Mode. That part is not new, but with two lenses now, the iPhone 11 is able to capture stereoscopic Portrait Mode photos. That includes of objects now and pets. You cannot do this with the iPhone XR.

QuickTake

Next for number eight is QuickTake. QuickTake is a new feature for the camera on the iPhone 11. Pressing the button takes a photo, but now on the iPhone 11 if you hold it, you can immediately jump into recording a video, swipe to the right and lock in that video mode and keep recording or press and hold and swipe to the left and take a bunch of burst photos. It's quick, convenient, and opens up a lot of new possibilities.

Improved Front Facing Camera And Slofies

So, the new front facing camera has been upgraded to 12 megapixels. Aside from all the different functionality it can do, one of them is slofies. Slofies are slow motion selfies and they can be recorded at up to 120 frames per second. It's pretty impressive and with that upgraded 12 megapixel sensor, they definitely look better than ever.

Improved Water Resistance

Next up on our list is improved water resistance. Water resistance is huge for the iPhone because if you ever get it wet, you don't want it to die, and the iPhone 11 is actually twice as water resistant as the iPhone XR. It can be submerged in up to two meters of water for up to 30 minutes and still function like it should. Many of these new features on the iPhone 11 take a lot of power, and they get it thanks to the A13 Bionic processor. Check out our full review to see how much more powerful the iPhone 11 is, but we can tell you from our iPhone 11 pro testing, that there is huge gains in performance machine learning and AI on the iPhone 11, compared to the previous generation iPhones.

Apple U1 Chip

The 2019 iPhone's got another new chip this year and that's the Apple U1. The U1 is Apple's Ultra Wideband radio, which allows for kind of like GPS, but for inside of your home. Right now, Apple has it pretty limited, but you can use it to point at other U1 enabled devices and have them show up at the top of your airdrop list. We also have support for Wi-Fi 6 this year. Wi-Fi 6 will show faster Wi-Fi speeds, if you have a Wi-Fi 6 enabled router. According to Apple, you should see up to 38% faster download speeds on the iPhone 11 with Wi-Fi 6. It isn't 5G, but the iPhone 11 does have faster LTE. 5G is simply not available at very many places, so Apple did improve the speeds of LTE to be up to 18% faster.

Capture Outside the Frame

Last on our list, coming in at number 15 is a new feature called Capture Outside the Frame. Now Apple has this disabled by default, so you'll have to go into settings, camera to enable it. Just toggle it on and whenever you're capturing a photo, it'll capture it outside the frame, using that ultra wide-angle lens, when you're on the wide-angle lens. What that basically means is the iPhone is capturing two photos at the same time, so you take it and maybe you're a little askew, you're not perfectly level and you have to go in and crop your photo after the fact. Since the iPhone captured a second, wider photo, you're able to crop in your photo without losing any quality. This does take up a little bit of extra space, but if you don't use that additional photo, they'll automatically be deleted after 30 days. So, that is it. Those are the top 15 features of the iPhone 11.
