Greg Sale's Tech Site

Sale, Greg Sale (Sorry I've always wanted to introduce myself Bond style). Hi I'm Greg and I'm an avid tech fan in Australia. From the time when I was a little kid I have loved tech. From my Nintendo and Sega growing up to iPhone (and Android phones) and iPad now.

I am an avid gamer although now I work in the telco industry so I have both a personal and professional interest in all things mobile and telco.

In my time in the telecommunications industry I have seen some big changes. From the Motorola V3X flip phones, Hiptop (that was huge at the time) and HTC and Palm PDAs (with Windows mobile) years ago when 3G networks launched in Australia. Then the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy mobile phone range were introduced and we had the introduction of 4G and now 5G.

Both Telstra and Optus launched 5G networks in 2019. Telstra had their first 5G device on May 22, 2019 Australia's first 5G mobile device, the HTC 5G Hub. This was closely followed by the Galaxy S10 5G, the Oppo Reno 5G, The LG V50 Thinq 5, the Note 10+ 5G and The Samsung Galaxy A90 5G.

Optus became the second telco in Australia to launch 5G on Nov 4, 2019 and at launch Optus had the following 5G handsets: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the Oppo Reno 5G.

Fixed internet wise there has been massive changes in Australia during my time in the industry. From dail up internet and 200MB ADSL and cable plans (many years ago) then 10GB and 12GB shaped home plans and the introduction with 3G of mobile broadband home and mobile data plans and options and now of course the NBN and its various technology types.

I've seen the introduction of the iPad and Galaxy tablets which was the spark for the growth in tablets. Also new phone model releases have gone from being 24 month releases to a 12 monthly cycle.

As mobile phones become more expensive I've seen phone cases and phone accessories become ever more necessary to all phone owners.

More recently I've seen the introduction of smart home devices and GPS locators or tracker devices which are set to have big impacts on our lives and on telcos bottom lines.

Sadly when I started in the industry all telco companies had Australian call centres. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Many of my friends and colleagues have been displaced and have moved on from the industry.

I provide this site with the aim to be a helpful resource that will help fellow tech enthusiasts and non techies make informed decisions on the phones, tablets, data devices, home and mobile internet plans and devices that they may be considering buying.
