Memos are a communication tool that many associations use to deliver essential information to a specific audience. Writers must consider many characteristics to create an appropriate document for the target.
Memos are a communication tool that many associations use to deliver essential information to a specific audience. Writers must consider many characteristics to create an appropriate document for the target.
But most importantly, writers must communicate the message with assertiveness and avoid all classes of misunderstanding. Many people would think that writing a memo or any kind of document, is an easy task; But communicating a message is a skill that not everyone possesses and that technical writers work on during their career to improve.

As a non-English native speaker, finding my own writing style was particularly challenging. It is more complex than using good grammar or perfect punctuation; As I mentioned before, as a writer your real aim is to transfer the message precisely through a clear, concise, coherent, and fluent way of writing. But when English is your second language this becomes an arduous chore.

When I stopped seeing my Spanish background as a weakness, and I decided to use it as my strength was the moment when I found my writing style. For that reason, I added this artifact to my E-Portfolio, on it you can see how the document transfers the message in a professional and formal style, but with a friendly tone. The memo is written for an Irish audience, even though I made a word choices and sentence construction that the text can be easily understood by a wider audience, including non-native speakers.
