See here for the group members

Steve Granick strives to create an environment where group members will discuss amongst themselves. He believes that lab members should be independent scientists who, taking ownership of their work, constructively help and encourage each other. This ensures good information flow within the group and gives group members experience that prepares them well to enter whichever job market they choose.

From 2014-2023 he served as the Director of the IBS Center for Soft and Living Matter, the South Korean version of a Max Planck Institute. From 1985-2014 he was on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with primary appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and joint appointments in the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, and Physics. He was educated by legendary founders of polymer science:  P.-G de Gennes (Nobel Prize in physics) as postdoc advisor, and J. D. Ferry (WLF equation) as Ph.D. advisor. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin (1982) and his B.A. from Princeton University (1978).
