To all friends of the Grand River Folk Arts Society (GRFAS):

Please know that on Monday, April 27, 2020 the GRFAS Board of Directors passed a motion to place its 2020-2021 Concert Season on hold for a year. After a stellar forty-five year run (est. 1975) as West Michigan's premier Folk and Traditional Music Concert Venue it has come time to push the pause button for a year.

Part of the rationale is helped along and coincides with the Corona-19 uncertainty for next fall and winter. We had already cancelled our March and April, 2020 Concerts due to the pandemic and what with the uncertainty of having to maybe do the same throughout 2020-2021 - it seemed that the better part of valor was to go on hiatus with next year's Concert Season.

Now during the time that the GRFAS Board will have in the upcoming year, we expect to address the need to change our venue out of the Wealthy Street Theater Annex. Many of our constituents have requested that GRFAS find a new Concert home and so we will honor that input and check out the possibilities. In addition, we also want to seriously think about what kind of musical acts we wish to book in the future - whether that be all local/regional, all national or some combination of both.

However, the most serious question to consider is whether the Grand Rapids and West Michigan live concert market can sustain another run by the Grand River Folk Arts Society - or is it time to graciously take a bow and celebrate our forty five great years, throw a huge live music party and become a piece of West Michgan music history?

Now here's your chance to help us out with these questions. Please feel free to email me - RH "Bear" Berends, GRFAS Board President at < > with your opinions, insights and ideas for the future of GRFAS. We covet your input and assistance on our Board discussions next year and we will seriously consider all well thought out ideas for our organizations future.

Now we do have some great news to share with you as well. Both our Song Circle and Traditional Dance venues are doing quite well with their respective attendance and enthusiasm - bravo! Thus, they will be fully active (depending on the Corona Virus that is) during our 2020-2021 Concert Venue hiatus. The GRFAS Board has authorized Mary Postellon to carry forth and create her Song Circle dates as she sees fit - likewise giving the same blessing to Jeff Otterbacher to prepare for a great Traditional Dance season as well!

Well there it is in a nutshell - this is exactly what's happening within the GRFAS organization right now. Please know that we are an all volunteer organization and could use your help! If you have particular skills you wish to share with the organization please feel free to contact me about a possible position on our Board of Directors. In addition, feel free as expressed above to just send me some of your good thoughts about our future Concerts and I promise I will share them with the Board once we start meeting again next fall.

So there you have it! Thanks for your attention, goodwill and positive thoughts as the GRFAS Board begins to discern the proper course of action to take in the future. So till the next time be well, stay safe and don't let the weeds take over your garden - blessings, Bear
