The mini island in the middle of my river. This is often where I kept all of my materials.
Drawing of a rusty can I found in the river.
Drawing of a branch that was in the river. It was half in the air and half in the water.
My Riparian Habitat Assessment. The Sleeper's River scored a total of 147 points.
Reflection for the day (7/21/2024):
For my testing site, I chose the Sleepers River in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Today the air temperature was about 74 degrees Fahrenheit and the water temperature was about 17.2 degrees Celsius. The conductivity of the water was 216. The pH of the water was about 6.9. The weather was quite sunny with a little breeze here and there. I could hear a lot of noise upstream from the flowing water. I found some trash in the water including an old rusted can and a tire. There was also an abundance of sea glass. I could see some erosion on the river banks from where the banks had been affected by the flood. There was a bridge that crossed over the top of the river. The habitat assessment went smoothly however I did feel a little overwhelmed by all the steps involved in collecting the e-coli sample. I did make an error while collecting the sample. I misinterpreted the instructions and I ended up doing 90ml of filtered bottled water, 5ml of filtered water from the syringe, and 5ml of unfiltered water from the syringe. Overall the day went well and I was able to enjoy my first day at the field site!
