A literature circle is a small temporary group formed where students meet and discuss and negotiate the meaning of the different books they are reading. Skills and strategies are discussed with the book as the reference point. Students will self-evaluate and peer evaluate along with the teacher's observations. The goal is that students get a choice in their reading and they ask questions, make connections, and make meaning of the text they are reading. It includes reading journals, different roles, and projects to recognize signposts and author's craft to get a deeper meaning of the text.Â
