I have not decided on an exact career, but I am aiming for somewhere in the fields of forensic science/pathology. I had not always planned to take this path in life. I have always been interested in criminology in forensics, ever since I grew up watching cop shows with my family. One of my favorites was NCIS, where some of the main characters were forensic scientists and coroners. Although my family found it disturbing, I was always interested in the scenes of autopsies and such. In my freshman year biology class, I enjoyed our dissection labs when many people didn't. Although in the past I had thought of taking the engineering path, I knew it wasn't the right choice for me. I hope to continue my interest in forensics and follow it past my high school career.
In order for me to build my knowledge of engineering, I have built a foundation of key concepts and knowledge in many subjects. I have taken Honors Physics and Honors Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry. Additionally, I took AP Computer Science Principles during my freshman year. I am now taking Honors PreCalculus, and Honors Chemistry. These classes teach a lot of things that will be relevant in my next two years at the JFCTC. In my previous years of Robotics and competing in Robotics competitions, there are many things we are taught that are similar to engineering. I am experienced in using notebooks to track progress, ideas, both successes and failures. I
When I am not in school, I enjoy spending my time volunteering, hanging out with my friends, and going to the gym. I also work as a hostess on weekends. In the past, I danced competitively and (as previously mentioned) was part of my middle school robotics team. Dancing was my passion for many years, and I plan to take it on again shortly. One of the hardest concepts for me to understand and accept during my time in dance was constructive criticism. In the past, it was difficult for me to understand how it could help me; instead, I felt insulted. I now know that this is one of the many ways that can help me to improve and self-reflect. While in robotics, I had to take on the role of the leader for my group and keep them on task to continue working towards our goal of building a working and functional robot that would help us succeed in competitions and such. Constructing this robot gave me insight into the work behind constructing complex machines. All of these experiences has helped me to become more group-oriented, cooperative, and leaderlike. As a hostess, I have gained experience in various aspects of the restaurant industry; I have also trained my current coworkers, which is another way I have led others in the past.
After I graduate from high school, my first choice would be to attend a four-year college. I want to be qualified and educated for any future employment, which is a goal that college would help me reach. I have not fully committed somewhere yet, but I have thought about the University of North Carolina or the University of Miami. Ideally, I would major in Biology and minor in criminology or forensics, but this depends on where I attend. I would most likely attend Graduate school after this to get either my Master's degree or a PhD.
Once I achieve my career goal, I hope to impact the society or even world that I live in. Being a military child, I have no set community that I identify with; Although I consider North Carolina my true home. As technology progresses and the human race moves forward, I strive to be apart of this movement towards the future and whatever it holds. I want to create solutions that are sustainable and simply help those around me live life a little easier. My dream for this future is to solve major issues around the globe such as climate change or poverty. Like I mentioned previously, I imagine that other women or girls of any ages would see this and pursue whatever career they may think is unattainable. I am lucky enough to be born in a day and age where I have access to these amazing educational opportunities, and I want others to realize they have the capability to do the same.
