TW: BRIEF MENTIONS POOR MENTAL HEALTH. VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.
During the first semester of this year, I had dealt with immense heartbreak and pain. I felt tired, exhausted, and I was on the brink of letting go. Until there was something that my mom had told me night before my 16th birthday. “If you ever get in some trouble, it’s gonna be because of you, and you need to remember who you are.” Her words reminded me that I shouldn’t let my heartbreak affect my character, and I must hold myself accountable for the choices I’ve made. I wrote this poem out of showing compassion for myself while still recognizing that my pain was a life lesson, and that I must evolve. Something I also added into detail is I bolded every semicolon in my poem. The semicolon is a symbol of dealing with emotional and mental distress, such as anxiety, depression, and suicide, but still wanting to finish your sentence. Still wanting to finish your story.

Author Statement: It’s about a girl who used to be a carefree person that didn’t know pain. Then the guys she liked broke her heart and she was confused about the situation. After a new guy showed up and showed her the love she was always looking for. Though she was still broken from the past situation ship, the new guy that came along taught her how to love again and he fixed the pieces he never broke.
