Sterling Heights Academy, a beacon of educational excellence, was brought to life by the visionary Professor Isaac Monney and his dedicated wife, Mrs. Asantewa Gyamfi Tenkorang. Our remarkable journey began in 2017 when our family relocated to Asante Mampong. Before relocating, our children were enrolled in a prestigious Montessori school in Kumasi, and we aspired to provide them with an institution of equally high standards in our new community.
However, our search for such an institution proved fruitless, inspiring us to embark on a mission to create a school that would rival the finest private schools in Kumasi. Our primary motivation was to offer our children and others in the community access to top-tier education. In 2018, with a strong determination and the generous support of friends and family, we founded Sterling Heights Academy.
Our journey began humbly, with our two boys being the first students, accommodated in one of the bedrooms of our four-bedroom house. Within one month, two of our close friends, who shared our vision, entrusted their children to our fledgling school. Their belief in us served as a powerful catalyst, reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional educational services to these budding scholars.
By December 2018, we had converted an additional bedroom into a classroom, demonstrating our relentless dedication to the cause. As the year drew to a close, we set in motion an ambitious plan to construct a two-storey, 14-unit classroom block. This expansion was vital to meet the growing demand for quality education in our community and beyond.
In February 2019, we proudly unveiled three new classrooms and our original two-bedroom setup. This achievement marked a significant milestone in our quest to provide a nurturing and enriching learning environment for the children entrusted to our care. Sterling Heights Academy has since continued to grow, setting new standards in education and enriching the lives of our students and the community.
We shut down our school from March 2020 to January 2021 in line with COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. However, we continued to support our students through online lessons using WhatsApp, Khan Academy, and Schoology.
At the beginning of the 2023/2024 Academy year (October 2023), Sterling Heights Academy had classes from Creche to Grade 8 (JHS 2). This milestone affirms our commitment to delivering high-quality education and meeting the diverse educational requirements of both local and broader communities. We are in a small town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Therefore, to ensure that even the poorest in our community can afford the quality education offered in our school, we offer scholarships to brilliant but needy students. This is done through the generous support of friends and family. Despite being a private school that runs entirely on the fees paid by children we provide scholarships to some children. Beneficiaries of these scholarships do not pay any fees. Truly, we have never regretted making this decision, considering the many children whose lives we have transformed through this initiative. We believe that these children will grow to become gallant leaders in society in the future.
It has been a challenging journey with very difficult moments but through it all, we have sustained this institution. Through Sterling Heights Academy, we have brought families together, transformed the lives of many employees, impacted the local economy of Mampong and built a solid educational foundation for many children. We aspire to do even more through the grace of God.
