MaaS providers use smart city technology, usually in the form of an app, to allow consumers to view, plan, and use multiple forms of transit within one app. MaaS providers create the interface that allows for this seamless use of various forms of transit.
Transit providers are firms that offer transportation services to the general public. They may offer one form of transit or many different kinds. Examples of transit may include bus, light rail, electric bicycles, electric scooters, carshare, rideshare, and more. MaaS systems include transit from more than one transit provider.
Consumers are anyone that needs to go from Point A to Point B! Sometimes MaaS systems serve an entire city, while at other times they focus on a specific group of people, like employees at a large company. GoBevo exists to serve the students and staff at the University of Texas at Austin.
There are two main ways MaaS systems are financed:
Commission-based models still require that consumers buy tickets directly from transit providers, but the MaaS provider receives a small commission for each ticket sale
Subscription-based models require the MaaS provider to purchase tickets in bulk and repackage them to consumers in the form of subscription packages. GoBevo will operate under this model.
