Dennis Janzer to present first program of the year
Saturday, August 11, 10:00 am - Circle Music Center
Please make plans to attend the first program of the GMMTA 2018-2019 year presented by Dr. Dennis Janzer. As summer comes to a close, we will receive helpful tips in revving up our students for a successful and progressive year, as well as, setting expectations and goals for students and teachers alike. The program will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. ~ Circle Music. Light refreshments provided also!
Executive Board to Meet

Our first executive board meeting will be on Saturday, August 11th at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be followed by the program presented by Dr. Dennis Janzer at 10:00 a.m. Please make plans to attend both of these and send any reports or items to add to the agenda by Saturday, August 4th...reply all. Also, please RSVP your attendance by Saturday, July 28th.

Jessie and Hollis currently reside in Cincinnati, Ohio and study with Mrs. Forell via Internet Midi and Skype. They have been winners of both the piano duet and piano solo TMTA Competitions multiple times and also of the UT Martin piano ensemble competition.

GMMTA Has MTNA State and National Winners!
Congratulations to MTNA Junior Woodwind winner Matthew Kim and his teacher Myung Kim!

Matthew is currently the principal flute at the Memphis youth symphony. He has studied flute with Myung Kim for 5 years. Matthew had an honor of playing at Merkin concert Hall ( Lincoln center) in NY for winner concert for the international Grand Music festival. He also selected principal flute for the honor performance series at Carnegie Hall. He won the Memphis youth symphony concerto competition this year.
He was also the winner of TMTA State Competition and Beethoven Club in 2017. He made 1st chair of All West Tennessee band last year.

Sean, an 11th grader and student of Dr. Yukiko Whitehead, has garnered numerous awards and recognitions. He is a seven-time winner of the Tennessee Music Teachers Association’s State Piano Competition (2011-2017), a state winner of MTNA (2017-2018 season), and recently he won Grand Prize honors for his performance of the third movement from the Piano Concerto by Alexander Scriabin and will perform with Nashville Symphony on May 15, 2018. He also earned first chair percussion in the 2017 All-State Band.

Marissa is a 7th grader of Schilling Farms Middle School, started to learn piano at age 4 and has won numerous state, national and international competitions since then. Most recently, Marissa is the winner of 2017 MTNA/TMTA Competition in Nov 2017.
Sandy Triplett Honored as MTNA 2018 Foundation Fellow
Sandy Triplett has a private piano studio in Germantown and teaches RMM adult classes at a local music store. Sandy is a member of Greater Memphis Music Teachers and has served two terms as president as well as holding many other positions in the group. Sandy was IMT chair for many years where she presented and facilitated IMT programs at state conferences and was delighted in meeting members from different locals. Sandy served as the Tennessee state representative for the National Music Link Program. “One of the highlights of my TMTA membership was when I served as president,” says Triplett. “TMTA members and programs have influenced and guided me to be a better teacher and person. I am humbled and very grateful to be nominated as an MTNA fellow.”
Sean Yang Winner of Nashville Symphony Competition
11th grader Sean Yang at Houston high school, a student of Dr. Yukiko Whitehead, was placed as a winner in the annual Curb Concerto Competition hosted by Nashville Symphony on Feb 24-25. Sean earned the Grand Prize for his performance of the third movement of the Piano Concerto in F# minor, Op. 20 by Alexander Scriabin. He will receive $2,500 and perform his winning selection with the Nashville Symphony as the featured soloist at the annual Side-by-Side Concert in May.
