In order to succeed at IB Global Politics, it is important on your exams and in your internal assessment projects, that you use specific examples taken from real-world contemporary case studies. Many of these case studies you will learn about and research on your own and the case studies you use will be your own choice. But, in order to provide a solid foundation for everyone, we will be examining five case studies together, drawn from around the world.
What are our five required case studies?
The Russia-Ukraine War
The Gang Crisis in Haiti
The Israel-Hamas War in Gaza
The China-Taiwan Conflict
The River Nile Dam Dispute
Your job is to become as knowledgeable as possible about these five political issues. You will be expected to work in teams and individually to link these issues with the key concepts and theories covered throughout the IB Global Politics course. You can find a brief introduction to each case study in the pages attached to this page, along with reasons why that particular case study was chosen, including the key concepts we will be focusing on for each case study.
REMEMBER: You are also expected to add your own case studies and make links between any contemporary events and the course key concepts where appropriate.
As we move through the course, you will need to become experts on the five required case studies.
For each of the case studies, you should make note of any links to the four core units when you come across them. Not all of these links will be discussed in class, so you need to become an independent learner!
