Valencia will always hold a special place in my heart—it’s where I did my internship abroad, the only one in my class to take that leap. I spent months working with a wonderful company, taking Spanish classes, and fully immersing myself in the culture. During that time, I explored Europe, made lifelong friends, and truly lived the Spanish way of life. I fell in love with the people, the food, the energy, and the atmosphere of this vibrant city. This guide is a collection of all my favorite places and experiences from my time living in Valencia!
Valencia offers a variety of amazing places to stay, whether you're looking for a boutique hotel in the city center or a stylish Airbnb with a local feel.
Affordable hotel: Casual Valencia de la Música (Casual Ventura Hotel)—a centrally located, budget-friendly hotel with music-themed rooms that add a fun and creative touch to your stay. It’s just steps from Plaza del Ayuntamiento, shopping streets, and great local spots, making it perfect for exploring the city on foot.
AirBNB, more independent stay: If you’re looking for something more local and design-forward, I also love this chic loft in the Ruzafa neighborhood. I lived here for a few months, and everything you need is within walking distance! It’s a bright, open-concept space with modern décor and a private terrace—ideal for sipping coffee in the morning or wine at sunset.
Ruzafa is one of Valencia’s trendiest neighborhoods, filled with cafés, vintage shops, and art galleries, offering the perfect vibe for travelers who want to live like locals.
When it comes to food, Valencia does not disappoint—especially in Ruzafa, one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods filled with cool restaurants, bars, and local gems. For breakfast, La Más Bonita quickly became my favorite spot. I went there multiple times and always made a point to bring friends and family—the atmosphere is beautiful, the food is fresh, and their pastries and fruit boats were my favorite.
Just around the corner, Blackbird was my go-to lunch spot. It's casual, cozy, and perfect for a relaxed midday meal, with plenty of creative dishes and good coffee.
For dinner, El Poblet, a Michelin-starred experience is for a more upscale night out. For a more casual dinner, check out La Taberna de Marisa, this is a family owned spot located right in the city center.
If you're looking to enjoy the nightlife, check out Café Berlín and Café de las Horas—both are popular spots for cocktails and a lively local scene. And for those on a budget, nearly any small neighborhood bar will serve you a cold beer or glass of wine at unbeatable prices—don’t underestimate the charm (and affordability) of the local hangouts.

Valencia's main beach is just a short ride from the city center—ideal for sunbathing, swimming, or grabbing seafood by the water.
Wander the Old Town (El Carmen)
Get lost in charming alleyways filled with street art, tapas bars, and centuries-old architecture.
Visit the Central Market (Mercado Central)
One of Europe’s oldest and largest fresh markets—grab a juice or local snack and take in the vibrant atmosphere.
Climb the Valencia Cathedral & El Miguelete Tower
Check out the supposed resting place of the Holy Grail and climb the bell tower for panoramic city views.
Bike or walk through Turia Gardens
A massive park that runs through the city in a former riverbed—great for a peaceful escape, picnic, or renting bikes.

This traditional Valencian drink made from tiger nuts is best enjoyed at a local horchatería in nearby Alboraya.

Learn about the city’s most famous festival and see the beautifully crafted sculptures that survived the annual fires.
Take a Day Trip to Albufera
Just outside the city, this natural park features boat rides, the best sunset ever, and some of the best paella in the region.
Catch Sunset at Rooftop Bars
Enjoy stunning views over the city with a drink in hand—favorites include Ateneo Sky Bar and 270º Terrace.
See a game at Estadio de Mestalla
Even if you don't watch soccer (futbol), this is such an incredible experience. Depending on who they are playing, the tickets can be very afforadble!
