International Learning Opportunities

The Read to Feed program encourages reading K-6, while raising awareness of world hunger and showing students they can make a difference. Classrooms set a goal and students get sponsors to provide donations based on amount read. At the end of the program, the group pools its funds and donates them to Heifer International to help Heifer assist millions of families around the world feed their families and reach self-reliance. Free global education lesson plans (and stories available for a nominal charge) help provide students with knowledge that will help them understand and appreciate the connections between people, their actions and the environment.

This is a website educators can use to find a classroom from around the world to communicate with. You can search to match up with someone who is looking for a penpal classroom, or you can describe what you are looking for and wait for another educator to find you. Many allow for communication via email, written letters, and video chats.

The goal of this project is for people to receive postcards (in the mail) from all over the world. To begin the process, one would sign up and receive an address to send a postcard to and an ID to include on the postcard. Once the person receives the postcard and enters the ID, your name and address will come up to the next person who requests to send a postcard. Then just watch your mail for the postcard to arrive! Every time one of the postcards that you mailed is registered you can then request to send another postcard.

Started in 2010 by a 7th grade teacher, this program has expanded to include over 1,000,000 students from over sixty countries connecting and talking about the same book. The program runs in the fall for approximately six weeks and has had participants from kindergarten through college. Sign up on the website to participate.
