Brainstorming the Future: Using Generative AI in Science Research and Writing
Bio:
Brian Klaas is the Assistant Director for Technology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Teaching and Learning. He also has a faculty appointment in the School's R3 Center for Innovation in Science Education. As the architect for online learning technology at the School, he leads a team that designs and delivers custom online courseware to thousands of students around the world each year. He teaches graduate level courses on communications design and data visualization for non-expert audiences as well as applications of generative artificial intelligence in public health. Brian heads the university’s IT Accessibility Training and Education subcommittee and the Hopkins Universal Design for Learning initiative at Johns Hopkins

1:10 PM- Afternoon Keynote - Ninah Sasy
Presentation title: Before the Tech: Critical Planning for Community Information Exchange
Bio: Ninah Sasy currently serves as the Policy and Planning Director with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and as a Health Information Technology (HIT) Commissioner. In these roles, she is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Michigan’s statewide Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Strategy, with a key focus on integrating the Community Information Exchange (CIE) to enhance data sharing and collaboration. She also directs program areas including the Office of Nursing Programs, the Strategic Alignment and Engagement Section, and the Workforce Access and Grants Section. Throughout her nearly 20-year career, Ninah has managed several statewide public health, environmental health, and emergency response initiatives, including serving as the inaugural Chief of the Office of the Clean Water Public Advocate. Her extensive experience in continuous quality improvement, project management, and strategic planning, along with her diverse career across several state agencies, has equipped her with the knowledge to bridge regulatory, policy, and funding efforts to support healthy communities.

Presentation Title: Embracing Technology
Bio:
Dr. Bensley is a professor of public health and the director of the eHealth Innovations Group at Western Michigan University. He has numerous years of experience working with populations through grant-funded program development, implementation, evaluation, and research related activities. He is the founder of Wichealth.org, the leading Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Internet-based nutrition education and behavior change program in the US, which has impacted nearly 15 million WIC clients across 46 states and Indian tribal organizations. He has served as the Project Director on nearly 400 externally funded contracts, totaling over $25 million, most of which support the development and implementation of technology-based behavior change
programming.
