We are a group of town residents who have gathered together, starting in Septembers 2024, to act locally to help address the housing shortage and affordability challenges that exist in our nation, our state and our community.
Glastonbury Friends of Housing was established to study, engage with town residents and leaders, raise awareness, increase understanding about what is meant by affordable housing, and support and advocate for appropriate changes and continued progress in creating a range of housing options that address affordability issues and changing household needs. We encourage well-designed developments, with a percentage of their units designated as affordable. We have been inspired by many successful examples in Glastonbury and other Connecticut towns.
To date, we have been learning from local residents and their experiences and individuals and groups impacted by or with expertise in housing and zoning matters. Glastonbury Friends of Housing has compiled and analyzed an array of data, information, reviewed state and local laws and regulations, attended and participated in town meetings, and engaged in community outreach to better understand housing issues and needs.
