About Me

I was born on the small island of Barbados attending Primary and Secondary School completing my school studies in 2003. I went on to do my Associates Degree in English Literature and Spanish with Themes at the Barbados Community College where I graduated in 2006. Aside from Studies my hobbies as a child included Ballet Dance and Piano. In 2006 I moved to Manchester, England turning my passion for Dance into a career. I graduated from the Northern Ballet School in 2009 where I achieved my Trinity College London Diploma in Professional Dance and I went on to join my first production company on graduating. After many years travelling and dancing throughout the world, I met my Panamanian husband and moved to Panama in 2013. After a few years I found my interest shifting back to my first degree, and sought to obtain a full degree in both subjects. I am currently studying for my Bachelors Degree in English with Emphasis in Translation.

Interpretation of a language is to "experience the target language as seamlessly as if it were the source language." Living in Panama on a daily basis I require this skill to fully understand what is now my second language, Spanish. Developing this is skill is vital for me regardless of my choosing to be a a professional interpreter or not as I will need this skill in any job I wish to obtain. Understanding more in depth the structure of syntax, grammar and phrases in Spanish is a challenge I am ready to overcome by developing my skills through practice, an opportunity these courses will provide.

The goal in the long run personally is to own and run my own buisness. I will not give away my ideas here, but I will say there are many opportunities on the global market, and Panama is an ideal place given its geographic location to run a business with international clients. The language barrier is something I considered, and therefore have eliminated by developing my own skills as an interpreter in order to guarantee success in the future.

Introduction

This site has been created in order to showcase different projects that were done during the two courses at the Universidad Latina de Panama. This portfolio highlights the learning and over all practical use of knowledge gained over the period of a semester. Throught this course different subject material was presented in order to practice consecutively interpreting different topics for practice in the field of interpreting through video recordings and notetaking practices.

Computer Assisted Translation

This course was aimed at becoming familiar with the varying type of Computer Assisted Translation Tools available for Translators. The importance of it being just that, an Assistant as ultimately through out the course it is clear that a final human translated version check is essential.

Translation Criticism

Critical thinking and translation skills are essential assets for translators. Throughout this course, adopting a critical approach to assigned tasks has been beneficial. This involved commenting on and assessing existing translations, as well as creating new translations. Engaging with these activities not only enhances our analytical abilities but also improves our translion quality overal
