Score & Music

Director Jordan Peele entrusted Michael Abels to compose this film's score. He said that he wanted to have "distinctly black voices and black musical references." However, this is not an easy task as Peele was also afraid that it wouldn't satisfy him after finding out that African-American music usually contains the very least gleam of hope.

Nevertheless, I found that the music used in Get Out was a good one indeed. I like them because it makes me feel more immersed in the movie.

Soundtrack #1, which is used for the prologue of the movie, is one of my favourites. This is because it has that unsettling vibe to it which is very related to the storyline itself. With 1042 plays on Spotify, this music keeps people wondering about how the story will turn out.

The Sunken Place by Timothy Williams is also a favourite of mine. This music stays true to its name as it imitates the sound and feeling of falling into somewhere deep, called the sunken place. At the beginning of the music, there seems to be a scream by someone falling. When he finally hits the bottom, a sound similar to a thud is heard, and an eerie music starts playing. I think that they are trying to tell the listeners that that is exactly how it feels like to be trapped somewhere unknown, without knowing how to get out.
