Students as Reflective Practitioners

Artifact #11

My learners are often asked to engage in self-evaluations and reflect on their learning - mostly through blog posts whereby they take photographs of their learning artifacts, upload them to their blog posts, and reflect using some open-ended questions I provide them. I had one student who disliked blogging so I gave him the choice of using Flipgrid to record a verbal response.

This artifact supports the following ISTE Standards for Educators:

7a - Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning using technology.

Learners as Bloggers Using Kidblogs

An example of writing a blog to demonstrate competency and reflect on their projects, this one on their Dias de la Muertos displays, follows. Learners were asked to select 3 reflection cards and answer them in a blog post. Nathan and Alan wanted to answer more than the three. Of course, I said that would be great.

For the following blog posts, the students were asked to first take photos and their repurposed games and then reflect on them specifying what they were proud of and what they would improve upon.

Flipgrid - An Alternative to Blogging

Aaron didn't like to blog - refused to do it. He was quite verbal so I gave him the choice of creating a video instead of writing his response.
