The Hurstville Community Forum provides a transparent and open communication platform for residents to discuss community issues such as public safety, parenting and education, personal health, legal aid, transport, environmental protection, public space improvements, cultural activities, sports facilities, housing policy, development plans and council rate policies.

Community Forum with Police Officer

In light of the recent tragic knife attacks and acts of terrorism at church, Georges River Association together with Councillor Ben Wang invite you to participate in the Police Community Forum to discuss the community safety and crime prevention. 


Are you concerned about your safety? 

Do you want to know what is the security situation and major crimes in the Hurstville area?

Do you want to know how to deal with theft or personal injury in public places?

Do you want to know how you should respond to burglary at home? 

Do you want to know how you should respond to vehicle theft?

The Community Forum aims to provide a platform for open discussions on diverse topics of community interest, fostering knowledge-sharing and community engagement.

Community Forum Inaugural Event hosted by the Georges River Association

On the afternoon of March 10, 2024, the inaugural Community Forum initiated by the Georges River Association was successfully launched in Hurstville.

President Jun Qi first delivered a speech, elaborating on the core principles and history of the Georges River Association, emphasizing the establishment of an open and transparent platform for discussion on issues such as public safety, parenting and education, personal health, legal aid, transport, environmental protection, public space improvements, cultural activities, sports facilities, housing policy, development plans and council rate policies etc. 

Councillor Ben Wang expressed that the Community Forum initiated by the Georges River Association is an innovative initiative, providing residents with a platform to express their views on local affairs directly, enhancing cohesion and participation among community residents, and providing space for collective wisdom to benefit the community.

During the forum, residents actively voiced their opinions and suggestions on various community issues.

Ms. Chen from Hurstville proposed the development of night markets to boost the local economy and the cultivation of multiculturalism based on the region's characteristics to attract tourists.

Traffic safety also sparked discussion, with Ms. Liu from Carlton highlighting frequent accidents at certain intersections and urging improvement.

Councillor Wang thanked the residents for their suggestions and assured them that some issues had already been addressed through official channels. He mentioned that his proposal for a sunshade over the gazebo near Hurstville Station had been approved and would soon be constructed. Additionally, measures to improve traffic safety in the Rose St section near Westfield Shopping Centre, had been approved by the council.

Councillor Wang also introduced the "Snap Send Solve App," which allows residents to report issues to the local government conveniently, and a demonstration of the app will be conducted at the upcoming community forum.

To accommodate residents with language barriers, translation services were provided, ensuring everyone had a voice and contributing to the forum's vision of "knowing each other, helping each other, identifying problems, and solving problems collaboratively."

Residents Norman expressed gratitude for the community's care and concern, echoing the sentiments of many attendees. Some residents who couldn't attend the event submitted written suggestions to the organizers, demonstrating their deep caring to the community.

The Community Forum will be held regularly, focusing on topics of community interest, providing residents with a platform to voice their concerns and ideas. The Georges River Association looks forward to hearing more from residents and working together for the betterment of the Georges River area. With Councilor Ben Wang's support, the forum aims to provide direct and effective assistance and support to the community's welfare.
