Reflecting on my journey, I have learned that personal growth is often rooted in adversity and exploration. Dropping out of university taught me resilience and the importance of taking time to rediscover my passions. My block practices revealed the rewards and challenges of working in traditional school environments, helping me refine my professional identity. Meanwhile, my current role as a part-time English teacher has affirmed that my passion lies in teaching language arts within a supportive and flexible environment that values creativity and individuality.
Through these experiences, I have realized that education is not a one-size-fits-all field—it thrives on diversity, innovation, and empathy. Whether designing a literature curriculum or mentoring students in public speaking, I have found purpose in connecting with learners through meaningful and engaging methods. These lessons will serve as the foundation for my upcoming transition to full-time teaching, where I aim to grow further as an educator and bring transformative learning opportunities to my students.
As I look toward the next chapter of my journey, I am excited to transition from part-time to full-time work as an English teacher with the same company where I currently teach. Starting in January 2025, this new role will allow me to deepen my involvement in teaching language arts while continuing to explore innovative and student-centered approaches. My experience working part-time in a supportive, flexible, and globally focused environment has affirmed my belief that education can be a creative and impactful pursuit when aligned with one’s values.
In this full-time position, I aim to take on more responsibilities, such as curriculum development and mentoring students in competitive settings like public speaking and debate. I also plan to leverage the global exposure I have gained to introduce fresh ideas to Hong Kong students, enriching their learning experience and preparing them for the complexities of a multicultural world. Long term, I envision contributing to education reform by advocating for creative and inclusive teaching practices that go beyond traditional classroom methods. This role is not just a career milestone but also a step toward fulfilling my broader vision of fostering meaningful learning experiences that inspire both students and educators.
My journey has been a testament to the idea that everyone moves at their own pace, and that is perfectly okay. The challenges I faced, from mental health struggles to professional setbacks, have shaped me into a more empathetic, creative, and determined individual. As I transition to full-time teaching in a part-time company that aligns with my values, I am excited to explore education from a global perspective and bring my experiences back to benefit students in Hong Kong. Teaching remains my one true passion, and I am grateful for the winding path that brought me to this realization.
