2.2 Catering to Student Diversity (50)


2.2.1 The institution assesses the learning levels of the students and organises special Programmes for advanced learners and slow learners (30)

Government Degree College for women, Nalgonda assesses the learning levels of the students, after admission and organises special programs for advanced learners and slow learners by adopting appropriate strategies.

Strategies adopted after admission

· Initially, the institution assesses the learning levels of the newly joined students by conducting subject–wise slip tests and question & answer session to gauge the previous knowledge in each subject in the chosen programme.

· The slip tests act as baseline tests which can give a quick understanding of the level of previous knowledge of a particular student in a particular subject.

· Similarly, to bridge the knowledge gap of the enrolled students and to enable them to cope with the programme of their choice, subject wise bridge courses are conducted to help and enable them in coping with the challenges they face in learning a particular subject in the initial stages of the programme of their choice and also to enhance their knowledge and interest. For instance, if a student from Science stream in Intermediate or +2 level takes admission in the Arts (B.A.), he or she is given bridge course providing basic concepts of the subjects, such as history, economics, public administration, political science. Similarly, the students from non-commerce background are provided with a bridge course in commerce and non-life science background students with bridge courses in Life science subjects.

Strategies adopted for Slow Learners

· Remedial classes are conducted for slow learners to promote understanding of concepts to catch up with peers and build competence to take exams.

· Peer /group/self learning and revision of old question papers.

· Special material is prepared and supplied to slow learners.

· Slow Learning students are provided with handouts, question banks and learning material copies.



Strategies adopted for Advanced Learners

· For the advanced learners, special educational programmes such as Jignasa, Student Seminars, Students as Teacher programmes, Higher Education (PG/B.Ed) coaching, Competitive Exam Coaching’s are conducted.

· Jignasa-the Students Study Projects is a flagship programme initiated by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education (CCE), Telangana State and organized every year at college level, district/cluster level and state level. A group 5-6 students under the guidance of a teacher present study project at various levels and the winners at the state level are given a award of Rs.30,000/- (Rs.25,000/- for students + Rs.5000/- for the Supervising teacher). In the year 2019-20, the students from the institution

won the first prize in the Hindi subject.

· Student as Teacher programme in which the student so selected acts as a teacher and presents a lesson on the T SAT, the state’s educational channel.

In 2019-20 academic year few students participated in T-SAT live in various subjects like students named T. Lalithya in Telugu, Manasa in Economics,

· They are also encouraged to participate in Elocution competitions, debates, group discussions, and quiz competitions, etc organised outside the college.

B. vaishnavi from B.Com participated in Master orator Championship, Yuvatarangam State Level Elocution, National Youth Parliament Festival 2019.

· Similarly, the advanced students are also encouraged to participate in the student seminars, group discussions, quiz competitions which are regularly organized by the faculty members in every department.

2.3 Teaching - Learning Process (50)

2.3.1 Student centric methods, such as experiential learning, participative learning and problem solving methodologies are used for enhancing learning experiences (20)

The institution supports student centric methods that provide the learners with the experiential learning, participative learning and problem-solving methodologies useful for enhancing learning experiences of the students. These practices ensure the interactive, participatory, Collaborative learning experience to the students.

Experiential learning

· The laboratories of the college are well equipped in order to provide the experiential learning to the students.

· Field trips are organised by different departments to have an experimental learning.

· Student study projects are also taken up in every department.

· The three NSS Units of our college are the platforms for the students to experience the prevailing conditions in the society, especially in the villages. The NSS units adopt a village each for their Winter Special Camp every year and camps there with 50 volunteer students in each. The experience that the volunteers gain will help them learn things in better and quicker way.

Participative learning

· The student seminars, study projects, students as a teacher programme, science fair, poster presentation, Debets, Elocution, Essay Writings, Group Discussions, Quiz etc., are extensively used to make the teaching learning more participatory.

Problem solving methodologies

· Project based learning coupled with course based projects are popularly used techniques by various programs of the college for enhancing the competence of students in applying their understanding of the subject to solve real time issues.

· Since from 2018-19, 2019-20 Academic Years NANDHI Foundation provides various programmes in understanding the real issues and improves problem solving skills.

· The Jignasa-Student Study Projects provides the students to think of a problem and it’s solving methodology.

2.3.2 Teachers use ICT enabled tools for effective teaching-learning process. (15)

The College supports ICT enabled teaching. Virtual teaching has been initiated and proved successful in offering students an opportunity to watch and hear the lectures on varied topics from experts. The Digital Classrooms have fully and successfully exploited the audio and video sources of learning. The institution is using LMS to promote e-learning and online courses in the college.

· All the faculty members prepare their class in the form of Power Point Presentations and will use these presentations as for effective teaching learning process.

· Some of the college Faculty have their own You-Tube lessons.

· Few faculties have their own Webnodes / Blogs where they store all the lectures and share the link to the students, so that they can listen to the classes whenever they want.

· Few of our faculty gave their lecture talk in MANA TV , T SAT Live Lectures.

· Nearly 2700 Lectures are conducted in online mode by the faculty of the college during the lockdown due to Covid-19 between 15th April 2020 to May 15th,2020 to complete the remaining part of curriculum.

· Online quizzes through Google form conducted.

2.5 Evaluation Process and Reforms (30)

2.5.1 Mechanism of internal assessment is transparent and robust in terms of frequency and mode (15 )

As an important task and productive educational strategy, the Government Degree College for Women, Nalgonda adopts the Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) System throughout the academic year. It strongly believes in establishment of robust Mechanism of internal assessment is transparent and with variety of initiatives. It also considers with great respect that the fair and equitable internal assessment with well-versed methods, techniques and tools certainly boosts the enthusiasm and confidence levels among the students.

The college Examination Branch deals with all types of examinations and evaluation both internal and external and strictly adheres to the evaluation schedules prescribed by the affiliating university in its almanac. Internal Assessment Test consists of 20 marks and is conducted twice in each subject, in every semester. And the remaining 80 marks are for semester-end written examinations. The evaluation of the answer scripts of the internal assessment tests is carried out by the college and of the semester – end examinations by the affiliating university.

The college has established a transparent and robust internal assessment mechanism for effective and efficient service delivery. The main characteristics of the mechanism are as follows:

Ø The dates of the Internal Assessment Tests, the mode and methodology of their conduct, the evaluation process of the answer scripts, distribution of marks and schedule of internal evaluation are regularly brought to the notice of the students.

Ø After evaluation of internal assessment test, the answer scripts are distributed among the students for their feedback and transparency in evaluation, besides displaying their marks on the notice boards following unique initiatives of our college are integral parts in robust mechanism of internal assessment.

Ø The institution has college whatsApp group with staff and top five Class Representatives. More over all Faculties (Mentor’s) also have their separate WhatsApp groups with their mentee students. Hence the institution encourages the departments to post the required information such as assignments dates, internal examination schedules, university circulars besides staff prepared subject related handouts.

ü Our institution also has a structured mechanism to solve grievances of students if any brought the notice in most amicable manner and in a time bound manner through Academic and Examination Committee (AEC) and the grievances are recorded.

ü The dates of the Internal Assessment Tests, the mode and methodology of their conduct, the evaluation process of the answer scripts, distribution of marks and schedule of internal evaluation are regularly brought to the notice of the students through circulars/ notice boards/ whatsApp groups.

ü In order to ensure grievance in transparent manner in the Internal Assessment, the institution provides the evaluated answer scripts to the students for their feedback or grievance, if any.

ü Staff meetings are conducted periodically at AEC and college level to review the evaluation process, collect feedback/grievance and to initiate needy action.

ü As a whole, the college practices the reforms in the evaluation system in compliance with the instructions, guidelines and schedules of the affiliating university. The college is proactive in redressing the grievances of the students, if any, related to examinations.
