Born in the last year of the Boomer generation, in a land so rugged the Romans built a wall to keep the Picts out. That same stubbornness now fuels a relentless pursuit of better diabetes tech.

💉 Diabetes Journey

Originally diagnosed in my 40s as a Type 2 diabetic. When my PCP refused to sign off on my PADI Medical Statement, I found Alain—an endocrinologist with a favorite mantra:
“Eat Less. Walk More.”

After losing weight and increasing activity, Alain ran a marker test and identified me as a LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults). That’s when I transitioned from pen therapy to the Omnipod 5 tubeless pump.

My years-long relationship with Alain ended in 2023 when he passed away from pancreatic cancer. Go figure.

When Alain could no longer see patients, I found Marcia, a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in diabetes. She helped me reduce my A1C and increase my Time In Range (TIR). Her approach?
Not just chasing numbers—optimizing outcomes with the Omnipod 5.

🧠 Diabetes Tech

Growing up in Silicon Valley from the '70s through the 2000s, I was always a tech junkie. I even had one of the first Timex Data Link watches that synced appointments from Microsoft.

When I started using a CGM, I wanted glucose data on my Samsung Watch. At the time, the only complication providers were:

• G-Watch Wear

• Blose

• xDrip+

The available watch faces weren’t exactly diabetic-friendly.

Then I discovered Watch Face Studio from Samsung. I started designing faces for personal use—but wanted to share one with a friend, Sarah. The app said “Share with Friends.”
HA. That required a Google Developer account and a full Play Store upload.

Fast-forward to 2024: Google adopts Watch Face Format (WFF)—no executable code allowed. That meant rebuilding the originals and spawning a whole new catalog.

Working with developers at Blose and GlucoDataHandler, I’ve helped shape complications that deliver the data I actually need to manage diabetes.
