Epic Games is searching for an experienced Outsourcing Lead to support and supervise creative content provided by outsource partners. Reporting to the individual art lead(s) and working with the Outsource Manager, the outsource Lead will provide front-line creative feedback for work submitted for Epic review.
Though the role will be mainly supervisory, the individual should be an experienced artist, having worked in game studio pipelines before, and have a solid hands-on art background.
The ideal candidate would be a talented artist who is able to communicate with outsource partners, include documenting existing pipelines, collecting or creating quality bar and technical example assets, collecting photo reference, creating asset blockouts, creating simple blockout paint overs, and finally packaging all files to send off to the external artists.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the individual Epic Art Leads, Outsource Manager(s), and artists on the team to ensure assets have all information they need when they are sent out to the external teams.
Collect or generate detailed documentation, video reference, and examples of art asset production, procedures, and engine requirements to support the external vendors.
If required, making any needed fixes to keep assets consistent and technically game ready as they’re handed off from the outsource partner.
Clearly communicating feedback to the outsource partner, and ensuring those creative notes and goals are met. Informing leadership in the event that isn’t happening.
Communicating and partnering with internal Epic art staff ensuring outsourced assets are ingested into the pipeline and engine correctly.
When required, some amount of hands-on art production delivering assets for the project, ensuring they are familiar and capable working inside of the Epic pipeline.
Bug support, triage, and resolution for any art assets that have been created by the outsourcing team.
Qualifications:
Experience in shipping AAA titles across multiple platforms.
Experienced shipping production assets for games in either environment, character, weapon, or concept disciplines
Experienced in game art asset creation in a variety of software packages including Maya, 3ds Max, Zbrush, Photoshop, Substance, etc.
Must be highly organized, self-driven, customer focused, and a great team player.
Must be a clear and concise communicator, able to deliver complex creative feedback across external vendor locations.
Experienced working within a team and a high pressure production environment
A PLUS - Fluency in a languages other than English, including Chinese, German, Spanish, Italian, or Russian

In this role, you’ll work closely with the production and art teams to ensure that quality art content is being delivered by outsource studios. Key elements of this role are existing, hands-on knowledge of 3D art and VFX pipelines for games, and ability to communicate effectively across multiple teams with exceptional transparency and planning. The ideal candidate has shipped multiple AAA titles as an Art Outsource Manager or art team Producer.
Responsibilities:
Working with team leads to understand, determine, and deliver on art outsource needs for Fortnite
Leveraging your knowledge of vendors and pipelines to ensure productive partnerships and clear communication
Owning the process of finding, evaluating, and selecting outsource studios for Fortnite
Scoping, negotiating, and setting objectives with external partners
Working with the Fortnite Art Director(s) and Leads to developing and document style targets, specifications, deliverables
Managing appropriate contracts and invoice approval, timelines and delivery schedules
Accepting deliverables, reviewing for quality, accuracy, testing in engine, and providing feedback as required
Organizing, tracking, and presenting deliverables for the team leads
Managing communications and providing feedback to artists, while helping maintain strong creative relationships between external and internal art teams
Identifying opportunities to improve workflow in the art pipeline as it relates to outsourcing and correcting as needed
Qualifications:
Extensive experience with outsourcing and asset management required, preferably for AAA games
Demonstrated understanding of 3D art asset pipelines and software, across modeling, animation and VFX
Clear and concise communication, leadership, and people skills
Process oriented, with an understanding of project management methodologies
Must be highly organized, self-driven, and a great team player
Experience managing multiple teams on a demanding, fast-paced and quality-focused project
