All BMAH students are required to complete 24 hours of community volunteer work BEFORE the start of their junior year.
All service opportunities must be in the Service Learning Portal.
Families must complete the Parent/Family Permission Agreement in PowerSchool for students to access the opportunities.
All hours must be completed by July 31st. Final projects are due no later than the end of the day on August 15.
All students will use the Service Learning Portal to identify opportunities, sign up, and log hours for your Summer of Service. The goal is to commit a substantial amount of hours to one organization to "make an impact."
Dr. Prince-Torain (gprince-torain@AACPS.org) will be your point of contact for Summer of Service. Please direct all emails to her. Make sure that you are monitoring your email through the summer.
To find the most opportunities, make sure you do not have any filters set at the top of the Opportunity Search page. Having "Related Interests," "Ongoing," or "Virtual" selected limits what you see.
When you locate an opportunity that you want to read about, click on it to open the full description of the event. On the picture below, you'll see an opportunity for an event at Marley Middle School. Pay special attention to the description, as it may have additional information about signing up (such as completing a Sign Up Genius or Google Form). Follow all of the directions.
To sign up for a specific date, see the GREEN dot on the calendar.
This example offers several times throughout the day. If you want to sign up for multiple spots, you will need to do so individually. Once you click on the time, questions open up for you to answer. Answer in complete sentences and with great thought.
Once you start your hours, make sure you log them daily.
Upload pictures, logs, certificates, letters, thank you notes, with your hours log.
Make sure to get pictures of you working!!
