Greener by Default Coalition at New York University Member Commitment

Note: This member commitment is for example purposes and may be altered to suit the needs of particular organizations. 

We, _____________________________ [organization], commit to membership in the Greener by Default Coalition at New York University and hereby pledge to take the following steps to promote a sustainable and ethical approach to our catering services and across the broader NYU community:

Implementation of Plant-Based Defaults:

When providing food at any event hosted by our campus organization, we will offer plant-based options as the default meal choice. This means that plant-based food will be the primary and most prominently featured meal options in all catering menus and meals provided. Individuals attending our events will be able to opt-in to animal products if desired, but plant-based choices will be served by default. At least 80% of the catering options offered at affiliated events will be plant-based, with at most 20% of the options including animal products (meat, dairy, eggs, etc.). 

Menu Diversity and Nutritional Adequacy:

We commit to ensuring that the plant-based meals we offer are diverse, nutritionally adequate, and culturally inclusive. Our goal is to cater to the dietary preferences and needs of all members of the university community while ensuring that plant-based options are not only sustainable but also delicious, attractive, and satisfying.

Endorsement of Commitment:

As part of our commitment to the Greener by Default Coalition at NYU, we agree to be publicly listed as a member organization of the Greener by Default Coalition at NYU on our official campaign website. In doing so, we grant permission to the Coalition to publicly identify us as an organization that endorses plant-based defaults across the broader NYU community.

Consistent Reporting and Accountability:

We commit to maintaining consistent reporting on the implementation of our commitment. We will regularly document and report our progress in offering plant-based defaults. This data will be made available to the Greener by Default Coalition and the broader NYU community to ensure transparency and encourage continuous improvement.
