The Village of Romeoville is a dynamic and growing community with more than 40,000 people. Romeoville's business climate has never been more favorable. Romeoville is a city with a balanced economy and progressive business atmosphere.

According to the 2010 census, Romeoville encompasses a total area of 18.759 square miles (48.59 km2). The majority of this area, 18.44 square miles (47.76 km2) comprises 98.3 percent of land. The remaining 0.319 sq miles (0.83 km2) that is 1.7 percent, is water. The vibrant community shares borders with neighboring areas such as Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Crystal Lawns, Crest Hill, Lockport, and Lemont and is strategically located within Will County.

A rich and fascinating history, Romeoville was among the last regions in Will County to be settled by Native Americans. The village of Romeo had its first settlers on September 14, 1835, on Isle a La Cache, a small island in the Des Plaines River. Notably, the first bridge built during the period allowed accessibility to the islands from its west side. The completion of the I&M Canal in 1848 attracted new residents, and by the 19th of January, 1895, the village was established and rebranded as Romeoville. Alongside Joliet, it became renowned as "Stone City," in reference to its flourishing limestone quarries, with its Illinois State Capitol featuring Romeoville limestone.

Through the years, Romeoville evolved significantly, particularly from its solitary population in 1950that contained just 46 homes and 147 inhabitants. The turning point came in 1957 when the construction of the Hampton Park Subdivision, leading to gradual population growth. The opening of the first I-55 exchange at Weber Road on October 5 in 1990, brought Romeoville with the Chicagoland area, paving the way for suburbanization. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Romeoville has been one of the communities that grew fastest in Illinois, witnessing an influx of more than 25,000 new residents in just two decades.

Tragically, recent events have drawn attention to the challenges facing our community. In a tragic incident that occurred on 16-17 September 2023, four members of a family, including the two parents and children were tragically killed in a mass shooting at their Romeoville home, with their three dogs also suffering the loss of their lives. The authorities classified the incident as a targeted attack. The suspect, 31-year-old Nathaniel Huey Jr., was tracked down in Oklahoma days later. A mishap occurred at a traffic stop he fled, eventually taking the life of his fiancee before ending his own.
