This Taal is also known as Chaanchar Taal. This Taal is mainly used for Thumri and Hori. It is not used for solo recitals on Tabla. There is not much scope of the Tablist in this Taal. It is played in the Madhya Laya.
In Thumri , the theka is played. After the completion of Sthayi-Antara, the tempo is slightly increased in the Sthayi. At this point, the Tablist moves from Deepchandi and starts to play Teen Taal or Keherva and later on Laggi-Ladi are played in Keherva Chhand to make it more ornamental. Later on, the Tablist arrives on Sam with a Tihai wherein the song ends.
When the Taal is played in Holi in a higher tempo then it is called Chaanchar Taal.
This is an Ardh-Sam Pad Taal. The Chhand form is 3/4/3/4
