wall kick

Place Tetris pieces to clear levels of challenging layouts. Install Video

How to Play: Move two pieces at a time to clear lines. Clear the required lines or gems to advance to the next level. This was intended to be a two player cooperative game. There are separate controls at top and bottom of screen.

Why: I started building a two player co-op tetris, and then saw how complicated the rules are for rotating pieces when the rotation is blocked. So I created a bunch of levels that use piece rotation rules as the key to solve each one.

Game Design: Provide dual inputs to control two dropping pieces. Keep track of what lines are cleared, gems collected, time taken, etc. Provide a level editor and a sand box to experiment with each piece. It was especially fun to create the intro screen and level selector, with large see through pieces rotating and falling. It was so fun to get lost in the world of piece rotation for hundreds of hours, and create something that will visualize the tricky wall kick rules.

Stories: Several levels that I could clear in the past... now I forget how to do them. Super fun to have a level editor and discover tricky scenarios. I still remember feeling scared, with that rush of adrenaline, when trying to clear one of the levels. It involved managing two pieces at the same time that drop on a timer. I think there is potential to be explored, when multiple things need to be managed, pushing the limits of what can be managed at once.
